Jeff Teay is a veteran vocal instructor with 18 years of experience, known for his warm guidance, sharp musical instincts, and occasional (but always effective) tough love. His teaching style blends professional vocal technique with practical demonstrations, humour, and a deep understanding of what students truly need to grow — because he has lived the journey himself.
Jeff began his musical path at Tiny Box / Focus Music under the mentorship of Roy Loi (黎沸挥). In 2006, he made it into the Top 24 of Project Superstar, which opened the doors to a series of high-profile performances with Mediacorp. He appeared on S-Pop Hurray! alongside artists like Jam Hsiao, Elva Hsiao, and JJ Lin, and performed on 音乐格斗场, hosted by Jeff Wang 王振复 and Cavin Soh 苏智诚.
Beyond television, Jeff has performed at numerous concerts, showcases, corporate events, and live venues — from intimate stages to large-scale productions. These experiences exposed him to different performance environments, audiences, and pressures, giving him a deep understanding of what it truly takes to deliver confidently on stage.
Since 2007, Jeff has taught hundreds of students, many of whom stay with him for years — even over a decade. Known for his quirky humour, sharp ear, and heartfelt dedication, he pushes students to become better singers and more confident performers, all within a safe, supportive environment.
Jeff created Playback Music School with one belief:
Music should feel like home — a place where people grow, belong, and create moments worth keeping forever.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced singer refining your craft, Jeff will meet you where you are, guide you with care, and (occasionally) roast you just enough to make you better… all in good fun.
